Privacy

Effective 13 August 2026. This is the whole policy — there is no longer version.

Who is responsible for your information

TheFirstDial is operated by Wen Ji Tang, a Financial Consultant based in Singapore. He is the person accountable for the information described here, and the only person with access to it.

TheFirstDial is his own initiative. It is not provided by, endorsed by, or affiliated with any insurance company, and holding a Family Card is not an insurance policy or a financial product of any kind.

What a Family Card is, so this policy makes sense

A Family Card is a card you keep in your wallet with a QR code and a 12-character code on the back. If you are ever unconscious or unable to speak for yourself, whoever finds you — a paramedic, a passer-by, a colleague — can scan it and see the people you chose, in the order you chose, so they know who to call. Your phone will be locked. Your wallet will not be.

What we collect from you

When you set up your card you give us:

What we deliberately do not collect

This matters as much as the list above, because it limits how much damage a card can ever do.

The people you list, and what happens to them

For each person you add you give us their name, how you know them, their mobile number, and optionally the languages they speak. You also tell us whether they are a nominee on one of your policies. This is the part of the policy to read most carefully, because it is about people other than you.

Wen Ji will call the people you list. Over the weeks after you set up your card he will ring each of them once, to introduce himself, to say that you have made sure they are looked after, and to tell them exactly what to do if they ever need him. He is a Financial Consultant, and if any of them later want help with their own plans, that is a separate conversation and entirely up to them. He will tell them, on that first call, that it was you who listed them.

He also keeps a private record of when he last spoke to each of them and when he intends to follow up, together with any notes from those conversations. That record is his alone.

Anyone you have listed can ask to be removed at any time, by contacting Wen Ji directly on the number below. They do not need your permission to ask, and they will not be asked to justify it. You can also remove them yourself, at any time, from your own card.

Who can see your emergency page — read this one twice

Your emergency page is public to anyone holding the code on your card. There is no login on that page, because a paramedic will not create an account and will not install an app. That is the entire point of the product, and it is a deliberate trade.

What protects you is that the code is 12 characters drawn at random from a 31-character alphabet — roughly 59 bits, which is not something anyone guesses. There is no page anywhere that lists cards, and no way to search for one. But if you lose your wallet, treat the card the way you would treat anything else in it: message Wen Ji and he will retire the code and issue a new card.

The emergency page shows the names, relationships, languages and mobile numbers of the people you listed, and Wen Ji's name and number. It does not show your insurers, your date of birth, your email, or your own mobile number. You see your insurers in your own card; a stranger has no reason to learn who covers you.

When your card is scanned

Each scan records the time it happened and the browser's user-agent string, and nothing else. No IP address, no location, no identity. This exists so Wen Ji can tell whether a card has ever been used in an emergency, and so a card that is being scanned repeatedly can be looked at.

Signing in to your own card

You sign in with your mobile number and date of birth. To stop anyone working through dates of birth by brute force, sign-in is limited to five attempts per number every fifteen minutes, after which that number is locked and you are asked to message Wen Ji. Each failed and successful attempt is recorded as a mobile number, a yes-or-no, and a timestamp.

Once you are in, your device holds a long random token rather than your details. Only a one-way SHA-256 hash of that token is stored on our side, so the token itself cannot be read back out of the database.

The iOS app

The TheFirstDial app talks to exactly the same system as this website. It does not collect anything additional, and there is no second database.

Where your information is kept

The database is hosted on Supabase in the Singapore region (ap-southeast-1). The website is hosted on Netlify. Those two companies process the data on our behalf as infrastructure providers; they do not use it for their own purposes.

Your details are never sold, rented, or shared for marketing, and are not passed to any other adviser, agency, insurer, or third party. The only circumstance in which information would be disclosed to anyone else is where the law requires it.

How long it is kept, and how to get rid of it

Your card stays live for as long as you want it. You can change or remove any of your contacts yourself, at any time, and the change is live immediately — the printed card does not need to be reissued, because the card only ever points at the page.

To delete your card and everything on it, message Wen Ji on the number below. Your client record, your contacts, your insurers, your sessions and your scan history are deleted, and the code on your card stops working. Once that is done it cannot be undone.

Sign-in attempt records are kept only as long as they are needed to make the rate limit work.

Your rights

Under Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act you can ask what personal data is held about you, ask for it to be corrected, and withdraw your consent to its use. These rights belong to you, and equally to anyone you have listed as a contact. Ask on the number below and it will be handled without fuss.

Children

Family Cards are set up by adults. A child can appear as a contact on a parent's card, in which case the parent is responsible for that decision and can remove them at any time.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that affects what happens to your information, the effective date at the top changes and Wen Ji will tell the people it affects. This page is always the current version.
